The Sacred Gifts Within You: Discovering What God Has Placed in Your Heart

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17

Beautiful soul, have you ever wondered why certain things light you up from the inside? Why your heart beats faster when you’re creating, serving, or sharing in specific ways? What if I told you that those stirrings aren’t random—they’re divine fingerprints, sacred gifts that God has intentionally woven into the very fabric of who you are?

Your Gifts Are Not Accidents

God didn’t create you as an afterthought. Every gift, every talent, every unique way you see and interact with the world was carefully, lovingly placed within you before you took your first breath. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that “we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Your gifts aren’t just for you—they’re for the world that desperately needs what only you can offer.

Recognizing Your God-Given Gifts

Sometimes we miss our gifts because we’re looking for the “big” ones—the obvious talents that get applause. But God’s gifts come in countless forms:

  • 💝 The Gift of Compassion – You feel others’ pain deeply and naturally know how to comfort
  • 🎨 The Gift of Creativity – You see beauty everywhere and can’t help but create
  • 🗣️ The Gift of Encouragement – Your words breathe life into weary souls
  • 👂 The Gift of Listening – People feel truly heard and understood in your presence
  • 🙏 The Gift of Intercession – You’re drawn to pray for others with supernatural burden
  • 📚 The Gift of Teaching – Complex truths become simple when you explain them
  • 💪 The Gift of Service – You find joy in meeting practical needs

What gifts do you recognize stirring in your own heart?

When Gifts Feel Hidden or Broken

Maybe you’re reading this thinking, “But Penn, I don’t feel gifted. I feel broken, lost, disconnected from who I used to be.”

Oh, sweet one, I see you. Sometimes life’s wounds can make us feel like our gifts have been buried under pain, shame, or simply the weight of just surviving. But here’s what I know to be true: your gifts are still there. They may be covered, but they’re not destroyed.

This is exactly why inner child healing is so crucial to our faith journey. When we allow God to heal those deep places in our hearts, our gifts begin to resurface naturally. It’s like clearing debris from a spring—the water was always there, just waiting to flow freely again.

If you’re in this season of rediscovering your gifts, our Healing the Silent Child Inside workbook offers gentle, faith-based exercises to help you reconnect with the beautiful parts of yourself that may have gone into hiding.

Your Gifts Are Meant to Flow

Here’s something beautiful about God’s design: your gifts aren’t meant to be hoarded or hidden. They’re meant to flow—from God, through you, to others, and back to God in a beautiful cycle of love and service.

When you’re operating in your gifts:

  • You feel energized rather than drained
  • Time seems to flow differently
  • You sense God’s pleasure and presence
  • Others are blessed and drawn closer to Him
  • You experience that sweet spot of purpose and joy

This is what I call living in faith and flow—that beautiful space where your gifts, God’s calling, and the world’s needs intersect perfectly.

Stewarding Your Gifts Well

Having gifts comes with responsibility. We’re called to be faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to us. This means:

  • 🌱 Developing them – Gifts grow stronger with use and intentional cultivation
  • 🎯 Using them purposefully – Ask God how He wants to use your gifts for His kingdom
  • 💝 Sharing them generously – Don’t let fear or perfectionism keep your gifts locked away
  • 🙏 Giving God the glory – Remember that every good gift comes from Him

If you feel a desire to not only discover your gifts but also steward them intentionally, our faith-based tools and resources are designed to guide you in that journey.

When You Don’t Know What Your Gifts Are

If you’re still discovering your gifts, here are some gentle ways to explore:

Reflect on these questions:

  • What activities make you lose track of time?
  • What do people consistently thank you for or ask your help with?
  • What breaks your heart about the world? (Often our gifts align with what we’re called to heal)
  • What did you love doing as a child before the world told you what was “practical”?

Pray and listen:

Sometimes we need to get quiet before God and simply ask, “What gifts have You placed in me?” Then listen—not just with your ears, but with your heart.

Journal it out:

Writing can help us process and discover things we didn’t even know we knew. If you need some guidance, check out our 21 Christian Journal Prompts to Help You Heal from the Inside Out for questions that can help you dig deeper into your God-given design.

Your Gifts Are Part of God’s Greater Story

Beautiful one, your gifts aren’t random talents—they’re part of God’s magnificent plan to bring His love, healing, and hope to a hurting world. When you step into your gifts, you’re not just fulfilling your purpose; you’re participating in the greatest story ever told.

Maybe your gift of hospitality creates spaces where lonely people find belonging. Perhaps your gift of creativity brings beauty into dark places. Your gift of teaching might be the key that unlocks someone’s understanding of God’s love. Your gift of encouragement could be the voice that calls someone back from the edge of giving up.

You matter. Your gifts matter. The world needs what God has placed in you.

Taking Your Next Step

As we close, I want to leave you with this gentle invitation: don’t wait until you feel “ready” or “qualified” to start using your gifts. God uses willing hearts, not perfect people.

Start small. Start scared. Start imperfectly. But start.

And remember, you don’t have to figure this out alone. Whether you’re in a season of rediscovering who you are in God or ready to step boldly into your calling, there’s support available for your journey.

If you’re feeling called to go deeper in discovering and developing your God-given gifts, I’d love to support you. Our Christian Women’s Retreat Kit offers a beautiful way to spend intentional time with God exploring your gifts and calling, or you can explore working with me one-on-one through personalized spiritual coaching.

Prayer for Today:

“Father, thank You for the beautiful gifts You’ve placed within me. Help me to see them clearly, develop them faithfully, and use them generously for Your glory and the good of others. Give me courage to step into all You’ve created me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
